This program originally focused primarily on in-person experiences. As participation continued to grow and our service area expanded, we wanted to break through geographic limitations and make it possible for more people to participate. To do so, we decided to build an online community through the internet.

The purpose of creating this group is to better serve our growing membership, enhance the quality of our services, and provide richer and more convenient learning experiences. At the same time, we hope to bring everyone together and share high-quality, meaningful programs with more friends, giving more people the opportunity to explore their interests and enrich their lives.

Moving forward, we will continue to offer a diverse range of classes, activities, and community services, creating more opportunities for connection, learning, and personal growth.

After an initial preparation period and pilot phase, we began our soft launch on July 25 and officially launched on August 8. We look forward to embarking on many more exciting experiences together with all of you.

NYFA hosted an Anti-Scam Awareness Night in New York, with members of the NYPD participating in the event. Through scam-prevention education and in-person discussions, the event reminded everyone to stay alert and be aware of the risks of scams in everyday life.

As scam tactics continue to evolve, it is important to remain cautious when dealing with unfamiliar phone calls, suspicious text messages, and other unsolicited communications. When you receive information from an unknown source, avoid sharing personal information or making rushed decisions. Taking an extra moment to verify the information can provide an extra layer of protection.

Through this Anti-Scam Awareness Night, practical scam-prevention knowledge was brought into everyday life. The event also reminded everyone to protect themselves and their families, strengthen their awareness of scams, and work together to help keep New York communities safe.

The New York City Health Department recently announced cases of Legionnaires' disease in Manhattan's Upper East Side. Relevant agencies are investigating potential sources of exposure and carrying out testing and prevention measures in accordance with public health protocols. At this time, the cases remain concentrated in a specific area, and health officials continue to monitor the situation closely. N.Y LIFE reminds everyone to stay alert, pay attention to their own health and the health of their loved ones, and continue following the latest public health updates from official sources.

What Is Legionnaires' Disease?

Legionnaires’ disease is a type of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria. The bacteria can commonly be found in water systems such as cooling towers, air-conditioning and cooling systems, hot water systems, and spas—especially in environments where contaminated water can become aerosolized.

Legionnaires' disease is not spread through person-to-person contact and is generally not transmitted by drinking ordinary tap water. Infection typically occurs when a person inhales tiny water droplets or mist containing Legionella bacteria.

• Persistent high fever

• Cough or difficulty breathing

• Muscle aches

• Headache or fatigue

Every year on March 17, Fifth Avenue transforms into a sea of green as hundreds of thousands of people dress in green to celebrate this iconic parade, which has a history spanning more than 260 years.

The celebration features bagpipe bands, traditional Irish dancing, and colorful floats, creating an incredible festive atmosphere that brings together visitors from around the world and New Yorkers from across the city.

🩸 New York Mets & New York Blood Center Host Winter Blood Drive

The New York Mets partnered with the New York Blood Center (NYBC) to host a community blood drive at Citi Field on Wednesday.

A total of 680 donors participated, with each donor receiving vouchers for tickets to two Mets home games during the 2024 season.

The blood drive came less than a week after the New York Blood Center issued an urgent appeal for blood donations. The organization reported that blood donations had dropped by approximately 5,000 units over the previous three weeks, resulting in critically low blood supplies.

As part of their long-standing partnership, the New York Mets and New York Blood Center host several blood drives throughout the year. Each year, they organize winter blood drives in January during National Blood Donor Month, when donations often decline due to school breaks, holidays, family vacations, travel, and cold weather.

The Mets Foundation also donated $80,000 to the New York Blood Center to help purchase a new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, which was officially unveiled on Thursday. The vehicle will be used to support mobile blood drives throughout the community.

Andrea Cefarelli, Senior Vice President of the New York Blood Center, said:

“We are incredibly grateful to the New Yorkers who generously donated blood today, and to the New York Mets for joining us during this critical time for our annual winter blood drive. These lifesaving donations not only support National Blood Donor Month but also provide vital support during the current blood shortage.”

Those interested in donating blood through the New York Blood Center can call 1-800-933-2566 to schedule an appointment.

Eligible blood donors can generally donate once every 56 days, while platelet donors may donate up to twice a month.

Those who would like to support the organization financially can text “NYBC” to 20222 to make a $25 donation.

The Mets and New York Blood Center host community blood drives every January and August, providing opportunities for New Yorkers to give back and help support the local blood supply.

With guidance from multiple professional coaches, the team had the opportunity to experience the American approach to golf training firsthand. From swing fundamentals, short-game and putting techniques, and bunker play to daily 18-hole practice rounds, each player worked step by step with the coaches to develop a stronger understanding of the game and more solid technical skills.

More importantly, without caddies to assist them, the players had to learn to judge distances, select the right club, plan their strategy, and make their own decisions on every shot. This experience taught them not only to think independently, but also to take responsibility for every shot they played.

Beyond improving their golf skills, the experience also broadened their international perspective. By immersing themselves in American golf culture and a professional training environment, they gained much more than technical skills—they gained confidence, independence, and the courage to take on new challenges.

Although the two-week journey has come to an end, the learning has only just begun!

We brought a group of seniors to a baking class, where they learned how to make a delicious and creamy New York-style cheesecake under the patient and professional guidance of an experienced instructor.

Everyone was fully engaged throughout the class, and completing their own creations was one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. Beyond learning a new skill, the activity gave participants an opportunity to connect with others, enjoy meaningful social interaction, and add more fun and fulfillment to their retirement years. ❤️🍰
